Teenagers raise thousands for Care Education

A group of teenagers organised a dinner dance to raise thousands of pounds for underprivileged children.
The 40 Harrow-based students are part of Leos-Hendon, a charity that helps teenagers raise money for underprivileged children across the world. The students chose Care Education as their charity, which provides education to children living in third world countries.
The dinner dance was held at Premier House Banqueting in Canning Road on Friday. The event raised more than £6,000.
Mala Mawkin, head of fundraising for the group, said the event had been a great success. She said: “I’m so amazed, raising that much money was just a dream come true really – one man bought £50 of raffle tickets, the event was absolutely brilliant!
"Care Education sent us a message after the event to say they were really impressed with the way we planned the event, and I want to say thank you to the people who help made it so successful.”
She said the students met the Mayor of Harrow at the event, accompanied by Councillor Victoria Silver.
Mala added: “It was so great that the mayor came, it was amazing meeting him. He was so impressed with us that he has invited to his parlour for tea.”
